Mineralogical Society Bursaries

Bursaries

Notes for Applicants

Applications for funding should be under the terms specified in each category. This includes, in most cases, applications to attend a Society event. Applicants are encouraged to take part in the Society’s active programme of meetings and courses, including many organised by the seven Special Interest Groups. Submissions to our two journals are also strongly encouraged.

Successful applicants will be required to provide a report of their trip for publication on this website and for possible inclusion in the Society’s pages in Elements. The report should consist of not more than a single page of A4 and should include a photograph of you, preferably on location. (Note that you may also be requested to provide receipts for your travel expenses.) Bursaries may only be used for the purpose specified in the application and are not transferable.

Financial support for meetings

On occasion, the Society will provide financial support for meetings with themes which are coincident with those of the Society. Mostly, such funding is provided through the Special Interest Groups (SIGs), but sometimes will be considered by the Society centrally. Applications to the Special interest groups should be sent to the chair and treasurer of the SIG in question. Applications for central funding should be received by the Executive Director in advance of meetings of the Finance committee, held in February, May and September each year. Proposals should be submitted well in advance (usually > 6 months) of the conference in question.
