The Applied Mineralogy Group and Environmental Mineralogy Group will joint host the 2019 Research in Progress meeting ‘Minerals in a Sustainable Future’.

The aim of this joint Research in Progress meeting is to discuss the ongoing work in applied and environmental mineralogy to address the sustainability challenges we face as a society in the near future. We particularly encourage early career researchers and students to submit abstracts on their research in progress, as well as those working in industry on applied and environmental mineralogy.
Oral and poster presentations are welcome in any branch of applied and environmental mineralogy, including:
- Sustainable mining, extraction, and ore processing;
- Resource recovery from waste;
- Waste storage, disposal and remediation;
- Biogeochemical cycling & mobility of natural & contaminant species;
- Sustainable mineral applications
We will have two keynote presentations from:
Andrew Bloodworth (British Geological Survey) – Charging ahead: Decarbonisation, electric vehicles and the new age of metals
Ronan Courtney (University of Limerick) – Ecological engineering approaches for the rehabilitation of mine processing residues (tailings): A case study with bauxite residue
